Affirmative Action: When Racists Call Us Racist PDF Print E-mail
Business - Beyond the Rhetoric

June 19, 2009, talkhousemag.com

When you get right down to it, you can call it just plain psychological warfare.  It is pretty much what the maniacal propaganda minister for Adolph Hitler, Joseph Goebbels would say, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, then people will begin to believe it.” That is what classic bigots of the far right movement are practicing when they claim that someone is a “racist” or a “reverse racist.”  They exclaim that Affirmative Action is evil and is racist in principle.  The real fact is that without Affirmative Action discrimination and the ills of racism fester and affect a targeted class in this nation, i.e. people of color and too often females regardless of color.

Groups like the Rocky Mountain Legal Foundation, the Pacific Legal Foundation, the Southeastern Legal Foundation and the Associate General Contractors sue government agencies for applying Affirmative Action to offset past discriminatory practices claiming that the remedy is in fact illegal.  We have the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which says that it is illegal to discriminate with federal monies or through federal regulation or benefit from a federal program.  The Supreme Court has confirmed that you can use Affirmative Action or race based remedies when there is documentation and specific application applied.  The past discriminatory practices of this nation are legendary and they still exist whenever there is no regulation, monitoring or adequate justice evident.

The life story of the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor is a fine example.  This remarkable Latina rose from the bricks of the South Bronx and was raised by her Puerto Rican immigrant parents through the obstacles of poverty.  Her father died when she was nine years old and she has been on insulin since the age of eight.  It wasn’t until after her father’s death that she became fluent in English.  Still, with strong determination she applied herself and became a driven scholar.  When the Civil Rights Act kicked in she was ready to take advantage of its purpose.  Today, she is about to become an Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court.  It never would have happened without the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement and the establishment of the Civil Rights Act.  Racism would have been an overwhelming obstacle as it was for so many before her.

So it was so insulting that after an illustrious academic record at Princeton and Yale Law School that the Washington, DC, law firm of Shaw, Pittman, Potts and Trowbridge told her in an interview that the only reason she was at Yale was because of Affirmative Action and not her skill set.  Being the giant that she is, she filed a formal complaint against the law firm.  The official faculty/student review board found her complaint justified and the prestigious law firm had to deliver a formal written apology to her.  I hope they learned from that lesson.

Equally hideous are the claims by some pundits (with racist reputations) that she is a racist because of her pride in her heritage.  No one of this ilk and prestigious accomplishments could have the handicap of bigotry.  That is why she is about to become a Supreme Court Justice and they aren’t.  In fact, there is no sitting Supreme Court Justice whose resume and accomplishments at the time of their nomination could come close to that of Judge Sotomayor.  I dare say there has been no other Supreme Court nominee in the history of this nation with as much credentials as she.  She is going to be great and that will heighten the judgment of President Barack Obama – the one who nominated her.  Oh yes, isn’t he another gifted child of God who got his chance through the Affirmative Action provided by the Civil Rights Act?

It is just amazing how many people of color have risen so fast as a result of the victorious Civil Rights Movement.  “Cream” will always rise to the top and with the lid of bigotry declared illegal and out of our way we are witnessing that fact.  So let us be vigilant and protect our liberties and the laws that were won by our forefathers.  We have come too far to turn around.  The vile claims, lies and assertions by bigots with a microphone must not deter our progress.  Let’s move on for we are just getting started.  As the song says, “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.”

An Hispanic Supreme Court Justice is well overdue.  It would have happened much earlier if it weren’t for racism.  It is happening now because we are overcoming the racism of the past, not because we are repeating it.  Please don’t fall for the game.  Congratulations Sonia Sotomayor and “Ndiyo Tunaweza” (“Yes We Can” in Swahili).

Affirmative action IS racist.
written by man_of_logic, August 06, 2009
Affirmative action is inherently racist. That is not an opinion. It is a fact.

I'm a second generation American. My family had no part in slavery and was, in fact, discriminated against in Turkey. Why should "minorities" get a pass while my family struggles?

The only way we can ever defeat racism is by not establishing policies based on RACE. Are you really that ignorant?

Race division
written by Jeremy, August 20, 2009
There is a school in my town that is for advanced learners. The district lets children test into it. They have to fill a racial "quota". So there are many children that deserve to go there that get denied because they have to have so many blacks and hispanics. Anyone who says that is not racial is IGNORANT. Being given something based soley on the color of thier skin. It makes me sick. Then I have to listen to some loudmouth tell me how I'm trying to keep him down. Giving minorities free rides is what is keeping them down. SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN! I get no breaks, neither should anyone else. The longer we keep programs like affirmative action in place the longer we keep everyone divided. To unify you cannot seperate.

Affirmative Action: Racism and "Diversity"
written by Anthony, November 24, 2009
Umm yes, Affirmative Action is racist and America is STILL racist too. Just because a select few are benefitting from racist politics doesn't mean we're progressing. If that's one's idea of a better America, that's disgusting. For every few individuals of a low-income, underfunded (schools), possibly unsafe neighborhood, there are thousands that are left behind and either stay in such ghettos or end up joining the military to be used for nationalism. This is not progress. Address the fact that minority areas that have such poor schools, such low-paying essentially retain racism (the majority of minorities aren't given the resources that whites would have) so as to allow humans of any race or belief to be encouraged that they are in fact on par with others. Don't promote diversity, using race to boost your corporation or institution's image. Don't use racial holidays to show minorities that "America cares." Address the fact that minorities suffer in such horrible living conditions (ghettos) and are barely given the chance to succeed. And don't blame it on the individual. That in turn, promotes stereotypes. Oh those mexicans are so lazy, the wonder their families are so poor. Oh those blacks are usually in jail, they must have some sort of criminal gene. Such bull. [This is to be added what the previous commentators wrote]

AA is racist
written by Anon, December 05, 2009
Why do blacks think they have it so bad? It is sickening how much one group of people can act like they have it the worst. Listen, I am a Jew. Our group had it much worse than the blacks ever did in the history of the world. Just 60 years ago there was a movement to exterminate my people. 6 million of us were killed. The rest displaced. Moreover, there is a huge amount of antisemitism throughout the world, not just in the USA. Yet, we Jews do for ourselves the best we can by working hard and advancing without the help of the government. You don't see rules about hiring certain amount of Jews, or Jew this and Jew that. Racism and antisemitism is wrong, but I think its really a bunch of crap the attention that blacks receive and try and bring on themselves when it comes down to racial matters. Get over it, work hard, and succeed. Don't ask the common wealth for handouts. End of story.

AA does not apply to Jewish Bank heads. It only does when it comes to promoting thier own.....
written by Todd, February 23, 2010
Oh you poor Jews. How many of Africans are currently dying because of ethnic cleansing? How many have died of AIDS that nobody gives a toot about? How many centuries were they traded like cattle to the whole world? If you ask me the Black people of this world(not just in this country have been shit on way more than any Jewish people person could hope for so they can use it for their giant propaganda machine). My uncle(white man) used to work for a large bank in Chicago for 20 or more years. He moved five years ago to be the president of a Guam bank. He told my father that even if he were the best man for the job in Chicago that the Jewish Bank top executives only hire or promote Jews, PERIOD! Lastly Jews may work hard but I guarantee they do not worry about paying for college or getting that top job once their Ivy league paid for studies are done. It is all handed to them and expected of them from their early manhood barmistfa. My point being that no matter the laws in this country, I would hope that everyone would have to follow them, not just the "cattle" or 99% of people.

Jimmy went into a shop, took a toy tank, gave the shopkeeper fake money and started to leave.

??So, the shopkeeper told ed hardy outlet him, "Excuse me, little boy, this isn't real money."Little Jimmy didn't reply, continuing walking out of the shop. The shopkeeper repeated himself, and Jimmy kept walking.

??The third time the shopkeeper called Air Max him, "I'm sorry, young man, but this is not real money."
